Talking Rhubarb

I’d really like to grow and harvest my own rhubarb. I’ve even been offered a plant from a friend, but I haven’t got a clue what to do with it. Any help would be mucho appreciated, ta

November and December are decent times to plant Rhubarb. You need to dig quite a big hole and put plenty of soil improver/manure in to help the plant establish itself. The crown of the plant should be just under the surface of the soil – about an inch or so. Water well. Then comes a very long wait – up to 2 years in fact before you should harvest anything from it. Then with it established you can look forward to lots of lovely fresh rhubarb. Bring on the pies…wine…jam…mmmmmmmmmmmmm
